While Anjunadeep is renowned for having a stable of artists who’ve become almost synonymous with the label, they’re also key innovators when it comes to discovering and honing new talent. Their new Explorations series is about just that, and the first edition presents four upcoming names that the Anjunadeep A&R guys have marked out for success. As we’ve come to expect from Anjunadeep, the tracks on offer here are a hybrid of solid house grooves, smooth deep house vibes, and experimental and quirky electronica. Opening track Into The Wild is the work of Edinburgh’s Theo Kottis (pictured), a regular on Moda Black who joins Anjuna with a chilled and minimalist track that is more suited to relaxing home listening than club play. Sticking with the stripped-back feel is total newcomers Wild Dark, a New York trio whose debut release Falling Deep blends simplistic guitar licks, throbbing bass riffs, and a subtle vocal. Upping the pace next is London lad Heliotype who combines Dusky-esque house production with some filmic string samples and spacey vocal chops in Catching Fire. Rounding us out is Aiiso and Point Of Return, which mixes stunning soundscapes and simple rhythms to create some wonderfully epic and beautiful electronica.
Explorations 01 certainly shows that the future of label in good hands, and we’re already looking forward to hearing more of what else these four artists have to offer, as well as what the Explorations series has to offer in future editions.Download HERE
